Workers of Wega Fashions, a garment factory in Dhanmondi of the capital, held a rally Friday protesting “illegal termination and attacks on the workers by the owner” of the factory.
The rally was organised under the banner of National Garment Workers Federation in front of Jatiya Press Club.
Addressing the rally, the workers of the factory alleged that in the name of shifting the factory, the owner had recently terminated all the workers illegally without paying their wages and dues.
They also alleged that some miscreants paid by the owners attacked the workers to foil their agitation for realising the dues.
The factory workers as well as the Garment Workers Federation leaders demanded that the government and Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) take immediate action to ensure that the owner of the factory pay the wages and dues to the workers.
They also demanded exemplary punishment of the attackers.
