Termination of 34 workers from Barisal shoe factory protested

Agitated workers demonstrated in front of export-oriented Fortune Shoe Factory at BSCIC Estate in Barisal on Monday noon protesting dismissal of 34 workers from their job.
The workers alleged that they were terminated for demanding their arrear two months salaries and three months overtime.
The cutting section of the factory was closed over six hours due this agitation.
Authority however claimed that the workers willingly resigned from their job and normal production of the factory resumed within few hours. Eighty percent of more than 1000 experienced and non-experienced workers, mostly females, continued working in the factory.
After visiting the factory on Monday noon, it was found that the terminated workers waiting outside the factory and tensed situation prevailing in the area. Elias and Yakub, two terminated workers, said 45 workers were doing job in cutting section of the factory since a long time.
The factory authourity did not pay the salary and 450 hours overtime in last three month at the rate of Tk. 17.10 per hour. Authority sacked 34 of us from the job after assaulting and ousting as we demanded arrear dues, they claimed.
Md. Salim Mia, in charge of the cutting section of the factory said that they resumed works at the section by transferring workers from other section.
