Chittagong Bureau :
An Assistant Thana Education Officer (ATEO) has been sued on charges of distorting the name of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Mohammad Moazzem, General Secretary of the Malghar Ward unit Awami League (AL) under Anowara Upazila of the district, filed a defamation case before a Chittagong court against Mohiuddin Mohammad Alamgir, ATEO of Patiya Upazila. The court of Chittagong Senior Judicial Magistrate-2 Kudrat-E-Elahi took the case into cognizance and summoned the ATEO before the court.
Court sources said Mohiuddin Mohammad Alamgir, when he was serving as the ATEO and acting Thana Education Officer (TEO) of Anowara Upazila last year, prepared a question paper of “Bangladesh and Global Studies” for class Three.
In the multiple choice question (MCQ), the students were asked to choose the nickname of Bangbandhu from the four options- Babu, Bakul, Loka and Jadu- but the answer was not included in the options.
The plaintiff Moazzem, elder brother of a class three student, lodged a complaint before the headmaster of Malghar Government Primary School who informed that the question was prepared by the ATEO who was the then acting TEO.
The plaintiff after discussing with Islamic scholars found that the option “Loka”, an Arabic word, refers to miscreant, servant or a man from lower caste.
Being aggrieved, the plaintiff finally filed the case for disgracing the name of the father of the nation Bangabandhu.
