Situation at Wazirpur upazila remained tensed on Thursday (September 27), six days after killing Jalla Union AL president and UP Chairman Biswajit Haldar Nantu on Friday (Sept 21) night.
On Thursday noon hundreds of agitated local people and family members of the deceased. socio-political leaders and community leaders of Hindu Buddha Christian Oikya Parishad, Puja Udjapon Parishad, forming human chain and holding agitation rally at Karfa bazaar of Jalla union demanded immediate arrest and capital punishment of the killers and plotters.
It was addressed among others by Iqbal Hafizur Rahman, AL leader and UZP chairman, Habihur Rahman Khan, central AL leader, Badal Biswas, Haranath Chowdhury, UP members, Samir Kumar Majumdar, former president of Jalla UP AL, Shafikur Rahman Bali, union AL organizing secretary, Sumon Shikdar, JL leader, Samrat Majumder, Liton, Anwar Bali, WP activists, Ashim Kumar Gharami, BCL president.
Another programme of human chain and agitation rally was held at Ichhladi, by side of Barishal-Dhaka highway organized by Wazirpur upazila unit of Hindu Buddha Christian Oikya Parishad, Puja Udjapon Parishad, in the morning of the same day.
It was addressed among others by Giasuddin Bepari, Wazirpur municipal mayor, Abdul Mazid Shikdar, UZ AL general secretary, Dilip Kumar Shikdar, president UZ Hindu Buddha Christian Oikya Parishad, Apurba Kumar Bain, president UZ Puja Udjapon Parishad.
The speakers of the programmes in their speeches claiming immediate arrest and capital punishment of the killers and plotters of Nantu. They said Nantu was killed due to his role against drug peddling and corruption in the area.
As UP chairman Nantu often opposing the illegal activities of the criminals, became target of the accused and gunned down on Friday night at his business enterprise Dishari Bastraloy at the Karfa bazaar of the Jalla union, the speakers alleged.
Emotional scenes were created by the hue and cry and clamor of the family members and dearest and nearest ones during these programmes.
Memtionable Suklal Haldar, father of killed Nantu, accusing 32 persons by name and 8 others unnamed lodged a murder case with the Wazirpur police station on Saturday last.
Police arrested seven in this connation of killing Nantu and they were sent them to jail after producing before the court till this report, said Inspector Helaluddin, OC (Investigation) of the police station and investigation officer of the case..
