If the house rent for Tk 25,000 and above are paid through banks, then the tenants may bear burden of extra amount of tax.
Bangladesh House Owners’ Association, an organization of the house owners, came up with the comment while addressing a press conference at National Press Club on Saturday noon.
Md. Helal Uddin, convener of the organization, read out the written statement at the press conference. He said, the decision will hamper the government’s initiatives to increase revenue as house owners may build up adverse transaction procedures with the revenue officials.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith, while placing budget for the 2014-15 fiscal before the Parliament, proposed that house rent over Tk 25,000 would have to be transacted through banks.
Then Muhith said, “It is essential to bring transparency in the process of house rent collection in order to widen tax net and deter tax evasion.”
