Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia on Monday said that information on tenants have helped eradicate major militant dens in the city.
“Theft, robbery, extortion and such other crimes have decreased. Crimes decreased when we started to collect public information,” he said.
Asaduzzaman made the statement while launching a mobile app titled “Citizen Information Management System (CIMS)” at the DMP Media Centre yesterday.
“Anyone can download the app on handsets avail information. In addition, other programmes to collect information of the city dwellers manually will continue,” he said.
The DMP chief said, “We have collected the information of over 72 lakh citizens in
CIMS. Individuals can no longer rent out or rent a house without a lease information form.”
Police will directly use the CIMS app to avail information about tenants, he said.
DMP sources said, CIMS app can be downloaded from the Google Playstore on Android phones and will soon be available on the Apple Store as well.
A citizen can then log in using the verification code sent to their mobile number, they said.
The citizen can see the data to be put on the app when an officer approves it for view. If the information provided by the citizen is incomplete, it will be notified immediately to his or her email ID, according to them. On September 1, 2016, the DMP launched CIMS project in bid to prevent crimes.
