Ten drown in four districts

Tent people drowned in Dhaka, Patuakhali, Manikganj and Lalmonirhat on Monday and Tuesday.
In Dhaka, a man and his grand daughter drowned in a boat capsize in Dhamrai upazila on Tuesday afternoon. The deceased were identified as Hakim Ali,70, of Bailla village, and his grand daughter Munni,11. However, Munni’s mother was rescued.
Local sources said Hakim Ali along with Munni and his daughter-in-law, wife of Julhas Ali, was returning home by a boat after treatment of the woman.
The boat was caught by strong wind and capsized with its passengers in Bailla area.
In Patuakhali, three cousins drowned at a pond at Karpurkathi village in Bauphal upazila of Patuakhali on Monday afternoon. The deceased were identified as Mahfuza 15, and Mariam, 14, daughters of Mukhlesur Rahman and Maria, 11, daughter of Mukhlesur’s younger brother Razzak.
Locals said the three sisters went to take bath around 2pm but did not return.
Their families initially thought that they went to visit somewhere.
A search for them was arranged when they did not return.
Their clothes and shoes were spotted near the pond.
Later, villagers scoured the pond and recovered the bodies of the sisters in the late afternoon.
The family members said the girls did not know how to swim.
In Manikganj, three siblings drowned while two others went missing as a boat sank in a waterbody during storm at Charmastul Charpara in Doulatpur upazila on Tuesday.
The deceased were identified as Hanufa, 37, her sister Roksana and brother Riajul, 25 of Jiyonpur village in the upazila.
The incident took place around 1:45 pm when a boat carrying seven people including the three sank in the waterbody while going to Charmastul Charpara to visit Hanufa’s sister’s house during storm, said Hasmot Ali, inspector of Doulatpur Police Station.
Three siblings drowned in the waterbody while Hanufa’s daughter Mithila, 12 and Roksana’s son Shanto, 11 went missing.
