At least 10 cocktails were blasted in the city’s Baitul Mukarram Mosque areas on Saturday morning.
After one and half an hour of the incident, the body of former Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and a war crime convict Professor Ghulam Azam was brought to the National Mosque in the capital.
Witnesses said that at least four crackers were blasted at the North gate of the national mosque, four at the South gate and two in front of Azad Products showroom between 11:15am to 11:20am.
The incident created a panic situation in the area and the pedestrians ran for shelters. Thousands of leaders and activists of the party gathered there to join the Namaz-e-Janaza.
Paltan Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Morshed Alam confirmed the news.
