Shamim, 22, son of Abdul Barek of Dharmatala and Jasim, 24, son of Tipu Hawlader of Suzalpur under Kotwali police station were rounded up by locals and then handed over them to Kotwali police after mass-beating on Wednesday night.
Anisur Rahman, superintendent of police, Jessore told that locals handed two addicts over to the police after they had pushed down idols at a temple on Wednesday night. ‘The police will arrest others if found involved’, he added.
Sub inspector Arun Kumar of Kotwali police station on Wednesday morning filed a case accusing Shamim and Jasim with the police station.
The two are now undergoing treatment at Jessore General Hospital under police custody, said Ilias Hossain, officer in-charge, Kotwali police station.
Dr Abdur Rab, medical officer, Jessore General Hospital told that the two were critically wounded.
According to the statement of the case filed with Kotwali police station, Shamim and Jasim damaged Ramkrishna idol and the fence of Sarbajanjn Kali Mandir (a temple named after goddess Kali) at Kadamtala in Jessore town as priest Sadhan Kumar Paul protested the sudden entry of the two at around 10pm on Wednesday. ‘The two were beaten up and handed over to the police after the incident,’ it stated.
Barisal Correspondent adds: Unidentified miscreant on Thursday early morning damaged five idols at Hari Mandir of Hindu community in Banaripara Bazaar area under Banaripara municipal town of Barisal district.
Bibekananda Kundu, president Banaripara Bazaar Central Harisava Mandir committee, said when a female resident of a house near the temple on Thursday morning out of home, found that a miscreant covered with scurf (gamsa) trying to vandalize the Idols of the mender with a Khonta (crowbar).
Renuka Debnath, the eye witness, said she saw that a masked miscreant vandalising the idols of the mandir, but failed to shout in fear..
Police collected copy of the recording on CC camera of this incident and trying to arrest the miscreant, said Ziaul Ahsan, OC of Banarapra PS.
Police already started investigation about the incident and liable would be arrested and punished, the police officer assured OC added.
SM Aktaruzzaman, SP of Barisal and Sahidul Islam, UNO of Banaripara visited the spot.
