TeleTalk Bangladesh Limited, the state-run mobile phone operator, has signed an agreement with Huawei Technologies of China for developing its network.
Giasuddin Ahmed, Managing Director of TeleTalk and Colin Shi, Chief Technology Officer of Huawei signed the agreement on behalf of their respective sides at the Post and Telecommunications Department on Monday.
State Minister for Post and Telecommunications Tarana Halim was present at the signing ceremony.
The agreement was signed for modernizing and expanding the 685 2G BTS (base transceiver station), 559 Node-B (3G BTS) and core networks at a cost of $39.2 million over the next 18 months. After implementing it, the 3G network of TeleTalk will reach the important upazilas of the country, said Tarana.
The junior minister said at present TeleTalk is providing their services through 750 towers, and 8,000 more towers will be needed for developing the network.
