The country’s telecommunications sector earned Taka 13,002.34 crore as revenue over the last 18 months till December in the current fiscal year. Replying to a question from independent lawmaker M Rustom Ali Farazi on Monday, Minister for Telecommunications and ICT Abdul Latif Siddiqui disclosed this in the Jatiya Sangsad . He said Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (BTRC) earned Taka 11,122.39 crore as revenue during the period from July, 2012- December 2013 while Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited earned Taka 1,695.13 crore as revenue during the last fiscal year and till December during the current fiscal year.
The telecommunications sector also earned Taka 168.06 crore as revenue from Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company Limited (BSCCL)-International Private Leased Circuit (IPLC) and International Internet Gateway (IIG) bills during the same period, the minister said.
Latif Siddiqui informed the House that Bangladesh Cable Industries Limited located in Khulna earned Taka 16.76 crore as revenue during the last fiscal year and during the first half of the current fiscal year.
