Five foreign mobile phone companies invested Taka 65,089.96 crore in the sector in Bangladesh in the last 14 years, Post and Telecommunications Minister Abdul Latif Siddiqui said Tuesday.
Responding to a scripted query from treasury bench member Didarul Alam, the telecom minister said the country’s largest mobile phone operator Grameenphone made the highest investment of Tk 24,009.50 crore from 2001 to 2014.
He said Banglalink Digital Communication Ltd (Banglalink) invested Tk 16,196.04 crore and Axiata Bangladesh Ltd (Robi) invested Tk 12,802.70 crore from 2001 to 2013.
Siddiqui, also the ICT Minister, told the House that Airtel Bangladesh Ltd invested Tk 11,042.00 crore from 2005 to 2014 and Pacific Bangladesh Telecom Ltd invested Tk 1,039.72 crore from 2001 to 2014.
