Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain yesterday said the city’s Tejgaon industrial area would be developed as a modern industrial cum commercial and residential area.
“A master plan would have to be followed to build any structure in this area,” he said while presiding over an inter-ministerial meeting at the housing and public works ministry meeting room in the city.
The meeting was held to review a master plan to turn Tejgaon into an industrial cum commercial and residential area, said an official release. The minister said all buildings in Tejgaon will have their respective parking system. Separate parking buildings would be built for the cars of visitors, he added.
He said no heavy and labour intensive industry would be allowed in Tejgaon area.
Industrial units, hotels, hospitals and other establishments on private plots must have their sewerage and waste treatment facilities, he said, adding that Tejgaon Industry Owners Association will be involved with the process of implementing recommendations of the master plan.
The meeting held detailed discussions on different proposals in the master plan and finalized recommendations, which would be presented to the Prime Minister very soon. Housing and Public Works Secretary M. Shahid Ullah Khandaker, Rajuk Chairman GM Jainal Abedin and other senior officials concerned attended the meeting.
