City teen gang groups: Teenage Sagar becomes another victim

Teen gang culture continues in the city as another teenage boy was killed over the supremacy between two teen gangs. Although teen gang culture is not a new occurrence, the rising trend of teenagers’ involvement in criminal activities including murder, rape and mugging has become an alarming issue for the fast growing society.
It is noted that some recent incidents of crime and violence by the teenagers in the city have become a new concern for the society. After the murder of Adnan, Mohsin Ali and Yasin Arafat; Sagar became another victim of such gang group’s supremacy in the city again.
Local sources said that teenage boy Sagar was hacked to death in broad daylight by few miscreants over the supremacy between two rival teen gangs at Kaligang of Keraniganj on the outskirts of Dhaka on Tuesday morning.
Police arrested two teenagers in this connection on Wednesday morning. They are identified as Alif, 17, and Tajbin. After arrest, both were sent to court where they admitted that four members of Rabin group participated in this murder.
The victim Sagar, 17, was son of one late Quader Khan, came from Subchani Laxminarayanpur area of Palang upazila in Shariatpur. Sagar worked at a embroidery factory in Kaliganj.
Eyewitness said that unidentified miscreants hacked Sagar indiscriminately while he was going to Baro Masjid region, leaving him injured.
Later, locals took the injured to Sir Salimullah Medical College and Hospital where duty doctor declared him dead.
Md Akkas Mia, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Keraniganj Police Station, confirmed the matter to the media that police arrested two teenagers in this connection adding that the boy might have been killed over establishing supremacy.
It is noted that on the day before Sagar murder, Sagar and Jubayer attacked one Tajbin who was the member of Rabin group. Since that issue, Rabin group on Wednesday morning attacked Sagar for revenge.
Earlier, on September 4, a schoolboy named Mohsin Ali was stabbed to death and three of his friends were injured, as two rival teen-gangs clashed.
On July 1, Yasin Arafat, 16, a member of the “Love Lane” gang, was killed in a fight with “Bangla Group” in Hazaribagh.
On March 21, Kamrul Hassan Hridoy, an eighth grader, was killed over a dispute between two teenage groups in the Uttarkhan area.
Activities of teen gangs in the capital came to light after the murder of Adnan Kabir, a teenage gang member, in early 2017. Adnan was a member of the “Nine Star” gang and a resident of Uttara.
