A teenager was stabbed to death centering a cricket match by a rival gang in the city’s Tejgaon area on Wednesday afternoon.
The victim was identified as Mohammad Abdul Aziz, working at a motor workshop in East Tejkunipara. He was son of Bashir Ali, a resident of Tejkunipara, Tejgaon.
Police have detained five persons in this connection. They are: Saimon, Jasim, Monir, Jewel and Rani, police said.
Mazharul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Tejgaon Police Station, said, “A group of teenagers allegedly attacked Aziz at Tejkunipara Khelaghar playground around 2:30pm. They stabbed Aziz with sharp weapons and lethally injured him. He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.”
Injury marks were found in his head, chest and stomach, the Police official said.
He might have been killed on account of the prior enmity focusing cricket on the playground, the OC said.
Police have already detained five persons in connection with the murder.
A case was filed with the Tejgaon Police Station in this connection, he said.
The body was kept at DMCH morgue for an autopsy. Earlier on January 6, a gang rivalry in Uttara led to the brutal murder of a 14-year-old boy.
