A teenage boy was stabbed to death and at least two others were injured in a clash between two groups of teenagers.
The incident took place in the Mill Barrack Lalkuthi area of Sutrapur, Dhaka on Monday night.
The deceased was identified as Ananta, 14, a school student of Class IX. He bore several stab marks in his body.
The injured — Saju and Sohel — were receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), Mohammad Khan, DMCH’s outpost Sub-Inspector (SI) confirmed the matter.
He said that the killings took place due to a dispute between two teenage gangs.
Injured Saju told the reporter at DMCH that a group is active in the shelter of two identified criminal in the Mill Barracks area. A few days ago, Ananta and his friends had a quarrel with this group.
They were chatting with 8-10 friends at Farajganj Ghat around 10pm. At that time the rivalry gang attacked them and a chase, counter-chase ensued. At one stage, the gang members injured them indiscriminately, stabbing, he added. They were rushed to DMCH, but doctors declared Ananta dead.
The family member said that Ananta was a student of the local Jubilee School and younger of the two brothers. He used to live with his family at Kazitola in Mill Barrack. Anantar’s father is an employee of a shop in Banglabazar.
Sutrapur Police’s OC Mamunur Rahman said that they had arrested three in the connection of the incident so far. They were 12 to 14 years old.
Meanwhile, SI Hafiz Ullah and Investigation Officer of the case said that a case was filed against five teenagers and two to three others unidentified teenagers.
A Dhaka court has fixed April 4 for hearing the case and the arrested were sent to Juvenile Development center in Tongi of Gazipur.
