A 17-year old girl committed suicide by hanging herself with scarf at their residence as her family reportedly failed to collect treatment cost in Majharia of Saltha upazila in Faridpur district on Friday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Rupshi Akter, daughter of fisherman Aku Sheikh, inhabitant of Majharia Shelter Center, said Asim Biswas, Investigation Officer (IO) of the case and Sub-Inspector of Saltha Police Station.
“Rupshi had been suffering from severe pain in stomach and chest.
She sometimes fell unconscious. The ultra-poor family consulted with local doctors several times. But she did not feel improvement,” the police official said after quoting deceased’s mother Nihar Begum and locals.
Realizing the critical condition of Rupshi, doctors suggested some medical tests of the patient in any medical college hospital or private clinic. But the family could not manage the treatment cost by selling fishes. Her parents also became embarrassed failing to manage the money from any person or organization, the IO said.
On Friday night, pain increased and become unbearable and frustrated Rupshi took the suicide decision emotionally, the police official said.
She committed suicide in absence of her parents’ departure, he added.
The body was recovered from the residence being informed by locals and it was sent to Faridpur Medical College and Hospital morgue.
