A teenage boy died falling from a date tree after he climbed it as part of the ‘Charak Puja’, a religious festival of the Hindu community marking Chaitra Sankranti, in Manirampur upazila on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Pranta Biswash, 16, son of Baneshwar Biswash of Balia-Pachakori village in the upazila. He appeared in this year’s School Secondary Certificate (SSC) examination. Local ward member Sudhanna Biswash said Pranta observed fasting since Thursday afternoon as part of the puja.
He along with several others climbed date tree near a local cremation ground on Friday afternoon to pluck dates for distribution among the devotees.
