Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB) on Tuesday put emphasize on technical education to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.
“There is no alternative to technical education to turn the country into a developed one and achieve SDGs by 2030,” IDEB General Secretary Md Shamsur Rahman said, addressing a press conference at the institute’s conference room in the city marking the upcoming three-day 40th IDEB National Council.
He stressed on forming a separate ministry for technical affairs to materialize the announcement of creating 20 percent of total manpower skilled in technical education by 2020, 30 percent by 2030 and 50 percent by 2040.
In the conference, Rahman said with the theme ‘TVET for national development and prosperity’, the three-day council will begin in the city on October 12. Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan is expected to inaugurate the council.
The council will also be featured with 12 working sessions, including two seminars on the national perspectives.
IDEB President A K M A Hamid, Public Relation and Publicity Secretary Md Sirajul Islam, Science and Technology Affairs Secretary A B M Atiar Rahman, Libaray Secretary Md. Abdul Bashar and District Unit President Khabir Hossain were present at the press conference, among others.
