The academic and administrative activities of the country’s technical education is staggering in severe problem in absence of the Bangladesh Technical Education Board (BTEB) Chairman and the Director General.
The Bangladesh Technical Education Board (BTEB) sources said, the immediate past chairman of the Board Professor Mostafizur Rahman went on retirement with effect from February 4 for which Secretary of the board.has been taking care of the work of the chairman.
But the Board officials said, that they face many problems in dealing with the regular activities as the Secretary is not equal to the Chairman. As a result, both administrative and academic activities are being hampered.
The Education Ministry has not taken initiative to appoint the Chairman.
Secretary (Technical and Madarasa Division) of the Education Ministry Md Alamgir said, the Chairman and the Director General are appointed by the Prime Minister. “Our Prime Minister will take the decision in this regard,” he said.
“The Ministry will issue letters appointing new Chairman and the director General after getting their names from the Prime Minister’s Office,” he said.
As such it is hoped that the fiasco will not survive very long. “It will be resolved soon,” he said.
The Ministry officials said that the PMO would seek some names of the qualified candidates for the chairman post. Surely it will be responded positively.
In the meantime, some candidates are also lobbying with the government to become the Chairman of the Board. Of them, Director (Curriculum) of the BTEB Dr Nurul Islam, Principal of Technical Teachers’ Training College (TTTC) Professor Ramzan Ali, Principal of Bogura Polytechnic Institute Professor Shahdat Hossain and Inspector of BTEB Engineer Abdul Quddus Sarder are trying to bag the post.
A total of 13 Director Generals discharged their duties with the Directorate of Technical Education. Of them, only three Director Generals were permanent. Rest of them discharged their duties as current charge.
The educationists said, technical and vocational education created a big opportunity for jobs and self-employment.
Despite receiving higher education, some youths are still unemployed, but none of those who received technical education or a vocational training is unemployed. They get jobs soon after graduation. So, the technical education should be run smoothly, they said.
