Tech univ can play pivotal role for sustainable dev’

Deputy Minister for Education Barrister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel on Sunday said Bangladesh had been upgraded to an industrial economy from an agriculture one.
He said universities of engineering , science and technology could play a pivotal role for attaining sustainable development.
The deputy minister said those universities must generate new concepts and emphasized on the importance of pro-people research and pragmatic education rather than infrastructure development alone.
Nowfel was speaking as chief guest while addressing a meeting in observance of the 17th Chattogram University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) Day at its campus on Sunday, , a university sources said.
 Nowfel said the universities, which were the highest seat of learning must concentrate on a balanced system by reducing dependence on the capital and the universities across the country had to respond to the regional needs.
The deputy minister remarked that the country led by Bangabandhu’s daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was marching ahead toward digital Bangladesh in line with the fourth industrial revolution sublimed by information technology and the universities of science and technology would have to cope with its challenges.
President of CUET Day celebration committee and Dean of Architecture and Planning Faculty Professor Dr Mohammad Saiful Islam presided over the function while member of University Grants Commission(UGC) Professor Dr Mohammad Sazzad Hossain, CUET Vice Chancellor Dr Mohammad Rafiqul Alam, and Dean of Engineering and Technology Dr Ranjit Kumar Sutradhar, among others, addressed as special guests.
