BSS, Rajshahi :Speakers at a discussion in Rajshahi have categorically said time has come to make the farmers dependent on technology for boosting agricultural yield to feed the gradually increasing population in the country.They viewed the arable land has been decreasing due to multifarious reasons while the population is increasing day-by-day. So, there is no alternative to boost farming outputs through the best uses of modern technologies to ensure food security in the days ahead.They were addressing the closing session of a three-day “Regional Agriculture Technology Fair-2015” held at the Deputy Director’s office premises of Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) in the city yesterday afternoon.Agriculture Information Office and DAE jointly organized the fair toproject the modern technologies before farmers and others concerned to boost agriculture production in the region.Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Mejbah Uddin Chowdhury addressed theceremony as the chief guest while , Principal Scientific Officer of Fruit Research Station Dr Alim Uddin, Principal Scientific Officer of Soil Resource Development Institute Dr Kamaruzzaman spoke as the special guests with Deputy Director of DAE Hazrat Ali , in the chair.Senior Assistant Director of BADC Jahidul Ferdous, Assistant Manager(Agriculture) of BMDA Monirul Islam and Regional Agriculture Officers Amirul Islam and Abdullah Hil Kafi also addressed.The discussants said sustainable agricultural technology has become the demand of time for boosting farming outputs to meet up the demands. Promotion of updated technologies is very vital to take forward the agricultural sector successfully.Technologists and researchers should take the responsibility of presenting their newly-invented technologies to the farmers in an easy way so that they can adopt it.Agricultural technology as well as good seeds, fertilisers, irrigation and pest management to the local farmers which will help to increase the production, they added.The speakers said the present government has attained remarkable success in agriculture sector and urged the officials concerned to put in their collective efforts to uphold the success in the days to come.There was no need of importing rice in last three years as we had adequate production to feed the nation as the government has attached highest priority to the agriculture sector.More than 26 stalls were set up in the fair displaying their different agricultural products and agri-technologies to attract the farmers for applying latest technology for boosting production.
