Bangladesh Food Safety Authority (BFSA), Food Department and Kishoreganj District Administration jointly arranged rally, discussion and documentary film marking the National Food Safety Day on Saturday.
A discussion meeting on Safe Food to build a gold Bangladesh was held at Collectorate Conference room on Saturday morning.
Deputy Secretary and ADC (General) Torafder Md. Akhter Jamil presided over the discussion.
It was addressed among others by Additional Police Super Md Masud Anwar, Senior Assistant Director of DNCRP Md. Ibrahim Hossain, Upazila Food Controlar Anwar Hossain, CAB President Alam Sarowar Tito, District Press Club President Mostafa Kamal, CAB Vice-President and Women Leader Bilkis Begum, Krishik League District Secretary Anwar Hossain Bacchu, Agricultural Officer Selina Hossain, Senior Medical Officer Dr Hosna Begum and Assistant Prof Samiul Hoque Mollah.
ADC Torafder Md Akhter Jamil said that government led by PM Sheikh Hasina is implementing various programmes, including Food Safety Act forming of BFSA considering the public health.
CAB President Alam Sarowar Tito said that, Food is one of the key components of the sustainable development goals and it is a big challenge of the country’s people and BSFA would play significant role to achieve the goals by 2030. A colourfull rally was brought out in the town marking the National Safety Day.
BSS from Rangpur adds: Officials and experts at a post-rally discussion on Saturday stressed on launching of modern technology-based food management system along with enhancing social awareness to ensure safer food for all citizens.
The observations came at the discussion jointly organised by the district administration and Department of Food at Deputy Commissioner’s conference room in observance of the National Food Safety Day- 2019.
Earlier, led by Deputy Commissioner Enamul Habib, a rally participated by officials of different government, non-governmental and human rights’ organisations, teachers, students and common people, was brought out on the city streets.

District Controller of Food Anirban Mohanta, President of Rangpur unit of the Consumers Association of Bangladesh Abdur Rahman and Assistant Director of the Department of National Consumer Rights Protection for Rangpur Afsana Pervin addressed as special guests.
In her presentation, Afsana Pervin narrated various steps taken by the government for proper enforcement the ‘Safe Food Act 2013′ and Consumers’ Rights Protection Act, 2009 to ensure rights of the common consumers to safe food.
“As a result of enacting the acts and their implementation, the common consumers have already started getting huge benefits and becoming more aware of their rights to getting pure food and other products,” she added.
The speakers put maximum importance on creating social awareness for ensuring strict enforcement of the ‘Safe Food Act 2013′ and Consumers’ Right Protection Act, 2009 to free the consumers from food poisoning, contamination and related diseases.
They urged business community people, traders and consumers to become aware of severe consequences of supply, sale and consumption of adulterated and poisonous foods while running food businesses to save consumers from health hazards.
The chief guest suggested all concerned for establishing a modern technology-based food management system for ensuring production, marketing and consumption of safer foods to protect public health and save human lives.

Addressing a post-rally discussion in the conference hall of Deputy Commissioner’s office, the participants resolved that collective efforts of all quarters, including the government and non-government entities, have become an urgent need for ensuring food safety for the sake of a sound public health.
They identically mentioned that all sorts of unsafe foods like adulterated and contaminated ones are injurious to public health. So, there is no way but to ensure safe and nutritious food for all.
Chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Zulkar Nayon, the meeting was addressed, among others, by Deputy Director of DAE Shamsul Haque, CAB local unit General Secretary Golam Mostofa Mamun, editor of Daily Sonar Desh Akbarul Hassan Millat and District Marketing Officer Shamimul Haque.
The discussants unanimously opined that proper enforcement of Consumers’ Rights Protection Act could be the vital means of protecting the consumers’ rights together with freeing the human body from any food poisoning and other contamination.
