A man was killed in a clash over the damaging of election posters at Madan in Netrakona on Saturday. The deceased has been identified as Genu Mia , 32, son of Abdul Jabbar from the upazila’s Fothepur area.
Sources said, Genu Miah, supporter of the BNP’s rebel chairman candidate became the victim of gunshot following a pre-polls feud between the supporters of the two chairman candidates in the village of Fothepur under Madan upazila in Netrakona district yesterday.
The fourth phase of the upazila polls will be held in Modan upazila on March 23. According to the police and local people, the clash took place between the supporters of BNP rebel
chairman candidate Rafiqul Islam and the BNP supported candidate M A Hares centering the incident of damaging number of posters of a chairman candidate in the aforesaid area.
Police from the Madan upazila police station rushed to the trouble-ridden area and brought the situation under control, Officer-in-Charge SM Mafijul Islam said.
Replying to a question, the OC informed that the situation was now under full control of the upazila administration and police started conducting raids in different areas to capture the killers.
