Nusrat Jahan Rafi, the burn victim madrasa girl who succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday, was laid to rest on Thursday beside her grandmother’s grave in Feni.
Rafi was buried after a Namaj-e-Janaza held on Sonagazi Pilot High School Playground.
Hundreds of relatives, friends and villagers took part in the Janaza.
The air of the Sonagazi tuned heavy and shocking thronged the streets around in her home town before Rafi’s body reached there.
They all demanded immediate arrest and exemplary punishment to those who were involved in killing of Rafi.
Redwanu Haque Baset, cousin of Rafi, said, they have no demand but punishment to the killers.
“It is brutal killing. Such incident never occurred even in the dark ages. The killers are not human being they just ferocious animal. We want exemplary punishment,” he said.
Kamal Uddin, a neighbour of Rafi, said, the incident which killed Nusrat is shocking as well as very shameful for this locality. Such incident never happened here. We want immediate punishment to the killers.
Earlier in the morning, the authorities of Dhaka Medical College Hospital handed over the body of Nusrat Jahan Rafi to her loved ones after a post-mortem examination.
The post-mortem began around 8am on Thursday following which the body was placed on a mortuary van around 12pm.
Nusrat’s family reached at Feni in the afternoon.
Nusrat Jahan Rafi, 18, a participant of the Alim exam from Sonagazi Islamia Fazil Madrasa, died on Wednesday night five days after she was set ablaze in Feni in an incident which provoked outrage across the country.
Meanwhile, Chairman of National Human Rights Commission Kazi Reazul Hoque on Thursday said, the prevailing culture of impunity is breeding brutality on women and children.
The NHRC chief was speaking in reflection to the death of Nusrat Jahan Rafi, the girl who was burnt to death for protesting sexual assault, at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Praising the bravery and resilience shown by Nusrat, the NHRC Chief said she (Nusrat) did not yield to injustice and she is a paragon of brave women.
“We get the lesson to protest…to live from her,” he said.
