Barishal teachers opined teaching in classes attending practically at institutions could not be alternative of academic activities through virtual classes. Besides in many cases it is creating and expanding inequality opposing universal, scientific education system within the reach of all.
They also demanded elimination of inequality in the education system by nationalizing all educational institutions. The speakers addressing in a discussion meeting held at Shikshak Bhaban on Tuesday opined these. Abdul Motaleb Hawlader, former principal of Barishal Government Women’s College, was present as the chief guest at the prize giving ceremony of children’s online cultural competition in occasion of 15 August, National Mourning Day. Faridul Alam Jahangir, President of Bangladesh Teachers Association (BTA), Barishal Regional branch presided over the programme. Teacher Dashgupta Ashish Kumar was present as special guests.
The speakers said that in many cases virtual class is a burden for many students. It is very worrying that children are being forced to stay home to attend in these virtual classes for a long time.
Its adverse effects force children to limit the intellectual progress and mental maturity.
“We want education to be enjoyable, non-discriminatory and burdenable,” said Dasgupta Ashish Kumar, a veteran teacher told.
The teacher not only teaches educational curriculum, he also teaches mood of life inclinations, which is not possible in a virtual discussion,”said the chief guest of the event.
Teacher leaders said over a thousand secondary schools in Barishal were closed due to Corona Pandemic.
More than 3 lakhs children are now at home here. Virtual classes may not be to create way to come back in educational system and institution, they added.
Because there is no necessary and minimum infrastructure to tackle this situation through virtual education. Many students or guardians do not have an android mobile phone set or sufficient financial ability to bear internet costs. Due to these problems, discrimination is being created among the students in the cities and villages, they observed.
After solving these problems providing free internet facilities and open accesses to mobile sets of all virtual education system can be partly started. Otherwise it will create and expand social inequality and suffer students with various problems including inferiority and superiority complexes.
The speakers also opposed the way solution of the problem through virtual classes remaining institutions close to face the Corona Pandemic, the educationists added.
