Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Tuesday castigated the college teachers across the country for not discharging their duties properly.
“Most of the college teachers prefer coaching rather than taking regular classes at their institutions. Students and teachers are not seen at many colleges after 11:00am, coaching is going on but no classes,” he said.
The Minister said this at a ‘Dissemination Workshop on Learning Assessment of Secondary Institutions, 2015’ organised by the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) at Dhaka Residential Model College.
Education Secretary Sohrab Hossain and DSHE Director General SM Wahiduzzaman spoke at the programme, among others.
The Education Minister said, college teachers who are involved in coaching think that if they teach properly at classes, students would not come to coaching centres.
Nahid also asked the students not to prepare questions from the notebook.
“We want to make a creative generation. That is why the Ministry introduced creative system in the secondary education level. If any one tries to make question from notebook he or she will be given punishment,” he said.
The Minister also directed the teachers to decrease examination time.
“If inspectors find a teacher absent in a classroom, a fine is supposed to be cut from his salary. But the teacher knows nobody will not come to inspect not even in a 10-year span,” he said.
DSHE Director General SM Wahiduzzaman questioned the inspection conducted by grassroots level education officials, as the pass rate of Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) is zero at many colleges.
