The government is going to take effective measures to resolve the teachers’ crisis with a view to ensuring quality education in the government colleges across the country, the Education Ministry sources said.
The Ministry has asked the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) to draft a master plan in this regard quickly.
As per the Ministry’s direction, a total of 12,588 posts will be created in order to eliminate the promotion complexity in the education cadre, the DSHE officials said.
Of them, 1,385 posts are for professors, 3,356 for associate professors, 4,351 for assistant professors and 3,496 for lecturers.
There are 15,041 posts in the government colleges now. Of them, 533 are professors’ posts, 2,212 associate professors, 4,286 assistant professors and 8,030 lecturers.
Director General of the DSHE Professor Md Mahabubur Rahman said, “We are working to create the new posts for the government colleges as per the ministry’s order. The Ministry asked us to build two and three grade level posts.”
“I hope that the new posts will help decorate the education system in the colleges. It will also play an important role to reduce teachers’ crisis. As a whole, it is a fruitful initiative,” Mahabubur Rahman said.
In the meantime, a meeting was held to discuss and receive views to implement the Ministry’s order. DSHE Director General Professor Md Mahabubur Rahman presided over the meeting while Member Secretary of promotion committee and Director of DSHE (Dhaka region) Professor Md Yousuf, BCS General Education Cadre Association President Professor IK Selim Uddin were present, among others.
Professor Md Yousuf said, “We have discussed elaborately how to implement the project. The DSHE will finalise the matter and send it
to the Public Administration Ministry for its approval. It will be sent to the Finance Ministry for budget. The Prime Minister will okay the plan.”
“It is an excellent step to make the higher education world standard. The college administration and academic activities will be run smoothly after implementing the plan,” Professor Yousuf said.
It may be mentioned that the DSHE formed a convening committee to prepare a proposal for creating posts for the government colleges in 2015. The committee was dissolved without any fruitful progress.
The DSHE formed another committee in 2016 with the Director of Monitoring and Evaluation of the DSHE as Convener and Director of DSHE (Dhaka region) Professor Md Yousuf as Member Secretary. But it also went in vain due to bureaucratic complexities.
