Leaders of Teachers’ Association from public universities including Prof Dr Farid Uddin Ahmed, President and Prof Dr ASM Maksud Kamal, General Secretary of Federation of University Teachers’ Association held a meeting with UGC on Wednesday at UGC auditorium on draft uniform guidelines for recruitment, promotion and upgradation for the university teachers prepared by UGC. UGC will finilaze the guidelines after holding a number of meetings with Vice-Chancellors of public universities and leader of teachers association.
UGC Chairman Prof Abdul Mannan was present on the occasion as chief guest. UGC Member Professor Dr. Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah presided over the function.
Leaders of Teachers’ Association, in their deliberations said that recruitment of qualified teachers at university level is very important for enhancement of quality higher education. The socio-economic development of a country depends on quality education.
Discrepancy is prevalent among the teachers and students as there is no uniform guideline for teachers’ recruitment at university level, they observed.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina directed the UGC for formulating uniform guidelines for recruitment, promotion and upgradation for the university teachers while holding meeting with Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, Senior Secretaries and UGC on implementation of the national pay scale 2015 for the university teachers. For this, UGC has formed a six-member committee with UGC Member Prof Dr Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah as its Convener for formulating time befitting uniform guidelines for recruitment, promotion and upgradation for university teachers. UGC held the meeting with the leaders of teachers association today on the draft guidelines prepared by UGC.
UGC Members Prof Dr Dil Afroza Begum, Prof Dr Md. Akhtar Hossain and Prof Dr M Shah Nowaz Ali and Additional Director of Public University Management Division, UGC Dr Ferdous Zaman, among others were present on the occasion.
