Teacher Utpal murder, prime accused Jitu confesses

Ashraful Islam Jitu, prime accused in the teacher Utpal Kumar Sarker murder case yesterday gave confessional statement admitting his involvement in the incident in a Dhaka court.
The case was lodged over beating Ashulia Haji Yunus Ali School and College teacher Utpal Kumar to death.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Rajib Hasan of the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court of Dhaka recorded Jitu’s statement under section 164 of the CrPC after police produced him in the court after the end of his five-day remand. After recording Jitu’s statement, the court sent him to the jail.
The same court on June 30 placed Jitu, 19, on five-day remand in the case.
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Jitu, student of class 10 of Haji Yunus Ali School and College in Ashulia, from his hideout in Srepur area of Gazipur on June 29.
Another court on June 29 also placed Jitu’s father Uzzal Hossain on five-day remand in the case. He was arrested from Kumarkhali upazila of Kushtia on June 28. Uzzal too, gave confessional statement in the case on Tuesday (July 5).
According to the case statement, Jitu attacked teacher Utpal Kumar Sarkar with a cricket stamp, striking him on head indiscriminately on the school field on June 25. Utpal died of his injuries at Enam Medical College Hospital on June 27.
Utpal’s brother Asim Kumar Sarker filed the case with Ashulia Police Station.
