Police here on Monday arrested a school teacher as he allegedly tried to rape a sixth-grader in Bamia Sardarpara area of Koyra upazila.
The detainee was identified as Bhaskar Mandal, 50, assistant teacher of Hogla Miloni High School and resident of Gazinagar village in the upazila.
Locals said Bhaskar took the girl to a garden in Bamia Sardarpara area and tried to violate her while she was visiting her grandfather’s house there.
Later, locals rushed to the spot after hearing the child’s scream and caught the teacher and informed the police.
Nimai Chandra Kundu, Sub Inspector of Koyra Police Station said a case has been filed with Koyra Police Station in this regard.
