The 42-year old school teacher was arrested on charge of poking eye of a student by a roller accidentally in a school recently at Shailkupa Upazila in Jhenaidah district on Wednesday.
Police arrested Murad Hossain, a Senior English Teacher after filing of a case by Shariful Islam, father of victim Mariatuz Foara on Tuesday, said Alamgir Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shailkupa Police Station.
Murad was sent to the local jail as per the court order on Wednesday, the OC said.
Murad confessed to the police that his hands got stained with ink on her roller accidentally, the police official said.
The school authorities have paid the victim Tk one lakh for better treatment, the OC said.
We did not find any prior enmity between them before the incident in interrogating the victim, witnesses and the teacher, he said.
According the case statement, Foara, a student of class VI of Montejar Rahman Mia
Secondary School in Shailkupa, was in her classroom on August 12. She lost her eye sight when a roller struck the eye.
The girl was admitted to the Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital first and then brought to Dhaka as her condition deteriorated. But doctors in Dhaka said that there was no hope, according to Shariful.
He says he wishes to take Foara to India for better treatment but cannot afford it.
