The Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-5 of Dhaka yesterday (Tuesday) sentenced a part-time Arabic teacher of Mirpur Holy Crescent School and College to life term imprisonment for raping a five-year-old girl in 2014.
Judge Tanjila Ismail of the Tribunal convicted accused Minhaz Uddin, 25. He was also fined Tk 2 lakh. In default, he will suffer three years more in the prison. He is son of late Enayet Hossain from
village Tabakpur under Ulipur Police Station of Kurigram district. According to the case statement, Minhaj took the child to a toilet of the school by alluring her to give chocolate and raped her there on March 11, 2014. Victim’s father Md Jasim Uddin filed the case with Mirpur Model Police Station and the accused was arrested on the same day.
Sub-Inspector Motiur Rahman of the police station submitted the charge-sheet of the case to the court on June 26 of last year and the court framed charges against the accused on October 29 of the same year. Of the 10 witnesses, the court recorded the depositions of nine.
Special Public Prosecutor Ali Asgar Swapon of the tribunal conducted the case on behalf of the prosecution while Advocates Salma Ali, Fahmida Akhter and Farhana Rahman Luna cooperated the prosecution in the trial process.
