Teacher dies in Faridpur hospital due to lack of oxygen

A pregnant primary school teacher who was suffering from breathing problem died at Faridpur Medical College Hospital allegedly for lack of oxygen at around 8:30am on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Ripa Das, 33, wife of one Mithun Sarker from Ramkal village in Rajbari district’s Pangsha upazila. She was also an assistant teacher of Ramkal Government Primary School.
Victims brother-in-law Dhiraj Kumar said that Ripa was admitted to the hospital on Sunday for pregnancy related complications.
He said Kaniz Fatema, a Gynecologist of Faridpur Medical College Hospital, took her to the operation theater for performing an abortion.
Ripa was sent to the general bed at 7am on Monday while she was suffering from serious breathing problem. Despite requesting repeatedly for a long time, hospital nurses and interns could not give her oxygen. An oxygen cylinder was brought in about an hour later when Ripa had already expired.
Her body was taken to Ramkal village at noon.
