Academic activities have been hampered due to lack of teachers at six government secondary schools in the district.
Though the crisis has been going on for the past few years, no effective steps have been taken yet. Only 84 teachers against total 155 are posted at those six schools while 71 posts have remained vacant.
The schools are: Rangamati Government High School, Government Girls’ High School, Narnagiri Government High School, Bhubanjoy Government High School, Taitong Para High School and Langdu Government High School.
Only 30 teachers out of 50 are posted at Rangamati Government High School which is the oldest educational institute in Chittagong Hill Tracts.
At Rangamati Government Girls’ High School, 18 posts of assistant teachers are vacant. At Narnagiri Government High School in Kaptai Upazila, only 12 teachers out of 25 are working. At Bhubanjoy Government High School in Jurachhari Upazila, four posts of teachers out of nine remained vacant. Six teachers out of 11 are vacant at Taitong Para High School.
Of the six schools, the teacher crisis is acute at Langadu Government High School in Langadu Upazila where two posts of teachers out of five are currently posted.
Due to the teacher crisis, the results of public examinations at those schools are poor. Meanwhile, in the standing committee meeting of the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs, teachers urged the authorities concerned to solve the crisis.
