Tea leaves worth Tk 2 lakh damaged in Juri

Around two lakh kg tea leave is rotting at several areas in the factory of Dhamai tea garden under Juri Upazila of Moulvibazar district over non-payment of electricity bill for six months.
In this cause tea workers didn’t get wages for last week. Other hand some staffs sells tea leaves to black markets in illegal way. About 1,700 tea workers who pick this leaves and storage to Dhamai tea garden factory are in great despair as good amount of the tea kept there have rotten.
Asked about the matter, Jadob Rudropaul, president of Dhamai tea garden Union said two lac kg tea leaves are rotting. The situation has arisen due to factory switch off from 15 days. Because Dhamai tea garden authorities didn’t pay electricity bill for six months.
“Due to shortage of electricity, required temperature cannot be maintained and tea leave are rotting,” Susanto Ray, factory clerk said.
Sumitra Rikmon, 45, a tea worker of the garden said, I am passing my every moment with crisis due to not getting wages. In this cause I take one meal in everyday for crisis.
When this correspondent visited on Saturday afternoon then seen Jadob Rudropaul, president of Dhamai tea garden Union and Sarat Rikmon, adviser of Dhamai tea garden Union were seen factory to rotten tea leaves, spreading bad smell and insects in the neighboring areas.
President of Tea staff Association (Juri vally) Surajit Sinha confirmed the matter to The New Nation .
About rotten. He said three tea gardens staffs and workers pay off for seven months. Provident fund money is not deposited from 2014.
Makhon Lal Karmakar, president of Bangladesh Cha Sramik Union said following bumper production of tea in Moulvibazar district this year. But Dhamai tea estate authorities destroy tea leave. They led to rotting of the tea leave. Other hand Dhamai tea estate authorities didn’t pay wages with salary regularly. If they didn’t pay due wages quickly then we will call strike in the garden.
Gopal Sikdar, manager of Dhamai tea garden said the problems for not getting loans from Bank timely. Bank authorities assure us as we solve the all problems within 15 days.
