Essential commodity stock of the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh this year is twelve times higher than the previous year and people have no reason to be panicked about availability of essential commodities, said commerce secretary on Saturday.
Mohammad Zafar Uddin, senior secretary of the commerce ministry, said this after visiting Shantinagar kitchen market in the capital around noon.
“Our preparation for Ramadan began three-four months ago at the instruction of the prime minister to ensure sufficient essential commodity in the market during the holy month. TCB has twelve times higher stock of essential commodities in their storage this year so that supply chain in the market remains stable,” said Zafar Uddin.
TCB also in contact with markets which are out of its network to ensure enough import and supply of essential commodities, said Mohammad Zafar Uddin.
The commerce secretary also said, “We assure the people that there is no reason to be panicked about daily essentials as TCB have sufficient amounts of essential commodities in their stocks. We including members of the consumers rights body, deputy commissioners and members of the law enforcement agencies are working to ensure sufficient supply”.
Asked whether the number of open market sale units would be increased or not, the commerce secretary said, “We have posted more trucks in different parts of the capital this year than the past to sell essential commodities and 130 trucks are currently in operation. TCB is selling essential commodities with 500 trucks across the country. If needed, TCB will increase the number of truck and dealers as both are kept ready deployment”.
He asked the business leaders to keep their profit margin during Ramadan like the other normal months and warned the of action if found otherwise.
The secretary also visited New Market kitchen market, Mohammadpur Townhall market and some spots of TCB truck sale in the city.
