The Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) has started selling onion at Taka 30 per kg on Sunday in the open market here for keeping the supply and price of onion normal.
Besides, TCB is selling other essential commodities through Open Market Sale (OMS) in the city. TCB has selected specific dealers to sell necessary essentials at nine different points in the Sylhet city, said TCBs senior regional executive officer Md. Ismail Mozumder.
The nine selling points are – Bandar Bazar, Machimpur area, Shahi Edgah, Govt. Aliya Madrasah field area, Tilagor point, Bagbari PDB office area, Aampur TTC area, Ambarkhana govt colony area and Pathantula point in the city, he added.
TCBs senior regional executive officer Md. Ismail said the TCB has fixed the price of sugar at Taka 50 per kg, lentil at Taka 50 per kg and soybean oil at Taka 80 per liter.
A consumer can buy a maximum of two kilograms of sugar, 1-kg of lentil and 5 litres of soybean oil at a time.
As peoples purchasing power declined sharply amid the coronavirus pandemic, TCBs latest initiative will help the low-income people to buy Onions at an affordable price.
