Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) has started the sale of essentials in open market in the port city Chittagong from today. A total of 10 trucks of TCB are selling the essentials at the open market under the Open Market Sales (OMS) program here in the port city.
According to the sources, OMS of rice and other essentials has started in the port city from today (May 15). Under the OMS program, rice and other essentials including oil, flour, sugar etc are being sold in the 10 spots of the city.
A total of 10 trucks in different areas of the city including Andarkilla, Chhotopool, Newmarket, Agrabad, Press Club, New Market and Bahaddarhat are distributing the rice and other essentials in low price today.
District Food Controller of Chittagong sources said, “People will be able to buy a maximum of five kgs from 30 trucks every day, except Fridays and Tuesdays. Each truck will contain four tons of rice.”
Chief of the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) in Chittagong Jamal Ahamed said, “the TCB has started open sell of essentials under OMS programme from May 15. The TCB is selling essentials by trucks in 10 spots in the port city before Ramadan which will continue till the holly month of Ramjan.
The consumers can buy essentials including rice, sugar, oil etc from the TCB sell centres with low price.” He also said that a total of 10 dealers have already been appointed for selling the essentials by truck in the port city to control the price hike in the holly Ramadan. Sources said, prices of essentials hiked in the current month at the ahead of Ramadan in the port city. The retailers are hiking prices slowly now as the monitoring teams of the district administration and other concerned authorities including the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) are yet to be active. But, the consumers alleged that the prices of essentials have hiked since the last week of the April for upcoming Ramadan.
