Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) has started nationwide commodity sales programme at subsidised rates again yesterday amid a surge in the prices of daily essentials in the market amid the Covid outbreak.
It is the sixth time that the state-own enterprise takes the open market sales programme in 2021.
On Sunday, TCB started to sell four commodities namely sugar, red lentil, soya bean oil and onion at subsidised rates in Dhaka and other metropolitan cities, district and upazila towns under its open
marker sale (OMS) programme.Under the programme, around 400-450 mobile trucks will sell the TCB products across the country till December 28.
The TCB will sell sugar at Tk 55 a kilogram, lentil at Tk 60 a kilogram, soya bean oil at Tk 110 a litre and onion at Tk 30 a kilogram.
According to the TCB release, each truck will sell around 200 to 500 kilograms of sugar, 300 to 600 kilograms of red lentil, 400 to 600 litres of soya bean oil and 500 to 1,000 kilograms of onions per day.
The prices of essential commodities like sugar, red lentil and soya bean oil, have continued to rise for the last one year, putting the fixed income people in trouble.
Sugar was selling at Tk 75-80 a kilogram while a one-litre bottle of soya bean oil was selling at Tk 155-165 in the city markets on Saturday.
The coarse variety of red lentil has sold for Tk 90-100 a kilogram and onion sold for Tk 40-55 a kilogram on the day.
