BSS, Dhaka :
The deadline for submission of return by individual taxpayers would no way be extended further from November 2, said National Board of Revenue (NBR) chairman Md Ghulam Hossain.
“NBR has already extended the tax return submission deadline up to November 2 from September 30 responding to the request of business people . . . we would not extend this deadline further,” he said while unveiling the cover of ‘DCCI Tax Guide 2014-15’ at the DCCI Bhaban Sunday.
Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) president Mohammad Shahjahan Khan, Vice-President Khandker Shahidul Islam, directors Haider Ahmad Khan and Abul Hossain, among others, attended the programme.
Ghulam Hossain urged all taxpayers to submit their return by November 2 and suggested individual taxpayers to contact to tax-service centre if they face any difficulties in filing tax return.
He said there are 18 lakh TIN holders in the country and hoped that at least 14 lakh returns would be submitted this year. On an average, 2.5 lakh taxpayers are dropped out every year, he added.
The NBR received 12 lakh tax returns in the last fiscal year, he said.
The NBR chief said there is lack of knowledge about tax not only among taxpayers but also among the tax officials. The NBR is now organizing tax fair at field level to disseminate tax related information for public, he added.
He said the NBR has its office in 85 upazilas and proposed to organize tax fair in those upazilas jointly with DCCI in future.
The DCCI accepted the proposal and assured the NBR of holding tax fair jointly in those upazilas.
