Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury has been appointed again as the adviser to the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on power, energy and mineral resources affairs.
Cabinet Division on Sunday issued a gazette notification on his appointment.
He had also served Sheikh Hasina in her previous term 2008-2013 with the same portfolio. He resigned from his earlier position on November 27, 2013.
According to the Press Information Department, the prime minister has appointed him as her engergy adviser under section 3(B) (1) of Rules of Business, 1996 where he will enjoy the status, facilities and allowlences as like a full minister.
Chowdhury’s role was questioned as he reportedly used to run the ministry and interfere with administrative decisions as the energy ministry did not have any full minister.
He had cleared several rental power plant projects which turned controversial later on during his previous tenure. Meanwhile, in another gazette notification, state minister for power division Nasrul Hamid Bipu has been made state minister for power, energy and mineral resources ministry.
