A 23-member task force was formed here Thursday with a view to keeping constant watch upon the day to day market prices of essential commodities during the holy month of Ramzan.
The task force has been entrusted with the responsibility of taking action if the prices of essential items go beyond the buying capacity of common people during the holy month.
The task force was formed at a meeting arranged by Khulna City Corporation (KCC) in a view to monitor the market prices and intervene timely if there is any attempt of price manipulation in markets.
Chief Revenue Officer of KCC Moshiuzzaman Khan became the convenor while market super Gazi Salahuddin was made its member secretary of the task force, KCC sources said.
A five-member advisory committee also was formed in the meeting with a view to supervise the task force.
Mayor of KCC Moniruzzaman Mony stood as the chief of the committee while deputy commissioner of Khulna Md. Mostofa Kamal, president of Khulna Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) Kazi Aminul Haque, Panel Mayor-1 Anisur Rahman Biswas and Chief Executive of KCC Hannan Biswas were made its member.
The meeting also decided to fix the wholesale and the retail prices of some major commodities and display the prices in the markets, major shops and holesale hubs during the month of Ramzan.
Addressing the meeting, leaders of different trade bodies promised to keep stable the prices of essentials goods during Ramzan.
