Staff Reporter :Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Haq on Thursday said that Tarique Rahman cannot appeal against the High Court verdict without surrendering first. The Minister in reaction to the verdict said that Tarique would be brought back home with the help of the Interpol for executing the HC verdict. A HC bench sentenced BNP Senior Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman to seven years’ jail and fined him Tk 20 crore, scrapping his acquittal in a money laundering case. The bench upheld the trial court verdict that handed Tarique’s friend and business partner Giasuddin Al Mamun to seven years’ imprisonment and reducing the fine to Tk 20 crore from Tk 40 crore. Talking about Tarique Rahman’s earlier verdict, the Minister said, “Tarique got acquittal in the case by influencing the judge of the Special Judge’s Court-3. Judge Motahar Ali left the country with his family members to Malaysia after a few days of the judgement.”The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the money laundering case against Tarique and Mamun in October, 2009 for siphoning off Tk 20.41 crore to Singapore between 2003 and 2007.
