BNP Senior Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman will be the acting chairperson of the party in absence of Khaleda Zia.
Two senior leaders of the party said it to journalists after a makeshift court awarded Khaleda Zia five years jail on Thursday.
BNP Standing Committee Member Nazrul Islam Khan on Thursday said the Senior Vice-Chairman of the BNP, Tarique Rahman, will run the party in absence of the party chief.
He said, “According to the party Constitution, the senior vice-chairman of BNP will become the acting chairperson of the party and he will give instruction to run the party.”
Major (rtd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, the Vice-Chairman of the party, also said Tarique Rahman will give necessary directions from London to guide the party.
“Our Senior Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman always keeps touch with the party senior leaders. He will give us the necessary directives time to time. We can also discuss every political matter with him using modern technologies,” he said.
Major (rtd) Hafiz said also the party standing committee will take important decision after discussing with Tarique Rahman in absence of the party chief.
