UNB, Dhaka :
BNP on Monday alleged that its senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman is being barred from coming to Bangladesh from the UK by implicating him in ‘false’ cases one after another.
“Tarique Rahman is now in exile… he isn’t being allowed to return as many false cases have been filed against him,” said BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. He came up with the remarks
while speaking at a milad mahfil arranged by Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office marking Tarique’s ’10th imprisonment anniversary’.
Fakhrul alleged that the 1/11 administration had grabbed power through a conspiracy to put an end to democratic movement and politics. They’d a plot to make the country politics free by removing the tested politicians.” As part of the plot, he said the 1/11 regime had illegally tortured after jailing a very potential leader like Tarique Rahman and carried out false campaign against him.
He said the main motive behind the arrest of Tarique was to eliminate him from politics and destroy the nationalist politics as he had initiated a new and positive politics in the country.
The BNP leader said their senior vice chairman is still sick and receiving treatment in the UK. “We hope he’ll return home in the country after getting well to restore a true democratic atmosphere by freeing the now besieged democracy.”
Later, a munajat was offered at the programme seeking a complete recovery of Tarique.
On this day in 2007, law enforcers arrested Tarique and later he was shown arrested in various graft cases. He has been living in London since September 11, 2008 after being released from jail on parole.
