Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission will hold a meeting within a week to discuss the adjustment of edible oil prices, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said on Thursday.
“The price has dropped in the international market but the dollar price has increased. That’s why the benefit is yet to be there. The tariff commission will examine what the price should be,” he told journalists after the cabinet meeting at the secretariat in Dhaka.
The meeting was held virtually and it was presided over by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from Gono Bhaban.
The minister said that a discussion on fuel prices was also held during the cabinet meeting where participants said that the country’s fuel price is lower than those in the neighbouring countries.
“If we take today’s international price of diesel into consideration, a loss of Tk 8 per litre is incurred,” he said.
