With streamlined services, the Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission wants to accelerate and maximise its outreach, said commission officials at a public hearing on Monday.
At the programme, Deputy Chief of the commission, Md Moshiul Alam, made a presentation highlighting their operations. Ministry representatives and businessmen joined the event, said a press release.
In the introductory demonstration, Moshiul Alam said the Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission has three wings – the Trade Policy Division, Trade Remedies Division, and the International Cooperation Division – that draft policy recommendations for the government on domestic and foreign trade, providing thematic analysis.
The programme also made clear that the commission works on the development of local industries, export of goods and services, increasing advantages for imports and exports, protecting industrial interests, anti-dumping, countervailing duties, and safeguarding tariffs.
The officials said the market monitoring wing of the commission tracks international and local markets for essential items and provides advice on keeping the domestic market stable.
When any business or industry raises its concerns, the commission provides policy support by conducting research in an effort to protect the interests of local business entities.
Commission Member Sha Md Abu Raihan Alberuni said the organisation has been enabled by a number of laws to provide a variety of services. “We are working on how to provide services easily by increasing the quality,” he added.
