Massive plan to change primary, secondary curriculum

The government has taken an initiative for changing the primary and secondary level curriculum with a view to ensuring quality education and to build the future generation as assets of the country, the Education Ministry sources said.

The Education Ministry has decided to reduce extra books from Class one to Class-X, to make the curriculum modern, to take the examination in the short time, to reshuffle the existing exam papers’ evaluation system, to build a question bank for the teachers to make questions, to ensure the books’ quality and to make the language of the books easy. The ministry has already formed four separate committees to reach the government target. The committee members have started their activities in this regard.

Additional Secretary to the Education Ministry Chowdhury Mufad Ahmed said, the educationists have been demanding to change the primary and secondary level curriculum and examination system for long.

Showing respect to the opinion of the educationists and realising its necessity the ministry took the initiatives, he said.”We hope that the students of secondary level will get the amended books from 2018 session. A coordination meeting between the Education Ministry and Primary and Mass Education Ministry will be held soon to materialise the plan. The government will decide everything in a workshop to be arranged with the noted educationists in the country for gaining the ultimate goal,” he said.

The language of the Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology books is very hard. The ministry handed over the responsibility to Prof Muhammed Zafar Iqbal to make the language of the books easy, the ministry sources said. The ministry officials said the curriculum of the secondary level education would be changed before making the language of the books easier.

A group of ministry officials has been working to make a guideline about holding take public examinations in a short time. Besides they will prepare a standard system to evaluate the exam papers. But the ministry is yet to appoint anyone to implement the plan.

The Deputy Commissioners placed proposals to the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for reducing the books for the primary and secondary level students on July 26.
 
They said that many schools force the students to carry extra books along with the ministry’s nominated books. It creates burden the children for mentally and hampers their growth.

Prime Minister ordered to take step in line with the DCs recommendation. Following the Prime Minister’s direction the Cabinet Division sent letters to the Education Ministry and the Primary and Mass Education Ministry for taking appropriate initiatives to reduce the extra pressure on children.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said, “We are working to make standard and excellent curriculum. After making it easy and extraordinary books will be written with the help of the noted educationists in the county.”
The Minister said the examination system would be reshuffled massively.
