Two ex-RAB officers Lt Col Tarek Sayeed Mohammad and Major Arif Hossain were shown arrested yesterday in the case filed for abduction and murder of seven people including Narayanganj city cooperation panel mayor Nazrul Islam.Senior Judicial Magistrate KM Mohiuddin in Narayanganj also put the duo on an eight-day fresh remand in response to an appeal by the investigators for 10 days’ for each of them. Investigation Officer (IO) Md Mamunur Rashid produced them before the court at around 5:20pm on the day showing them arrested in two murder cases and sought 10 days remand for interrogation.The two sacked RAB officers were arrested from Dhaka Cantonment on May 17, for their alleged involvement in the sensational Narayanganj seven murder.Hours after the arrest of the officers, who were sent on forced retirement following allegations of their involvement in the crime, were placed on a five-day remand on May 17.Narayanganj City Corporation panel mayor Nazrul Islam and lawyer Chandan Sarkar along with five others were killed and their bodies were dumped into the river Shitalakkhya after their abduction on April 27.The family members of Nazrul alleged that RAB 11 Commanding Officer Lt Col Tareq Sayeed Mohammad and two other RAB 11 officials – Major Arif Hossain and Lt Commander SM Masud Rana – killed all the seven persons for Tk 6 crore.On April 28, the authorities concerned had withdrawn all the three RAB-11 officials along with the Narayanganj Superintendent of Police and the Deputy Commissioner.Following the allegations, the Arms Forces Division (AFD) sent Lt Col Tareq Sayeed Mohammad and Major Arif Hossain on premature retirement from the Army and Lt Commander SM Masud Rana on forced retirement from the Navy.
